Geography
Santa Fe is located in the north central part of the state of New Mexico, in the northern Rio Grandevalley at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
The landscape is more ski-basin than desert.Contrary to popular belief, Santa Fe isn't actually high desert — technically, it's semi-arid steppe (with cold winters!). Even though the city gets 300 days of sunshine, locals get to experience all four seasons.
Santa Fe is characterized by cool winters and warm summers. The average temperature in Santa Fe ranges from a low of 14°F (-10°C) to a high of 40°F (4°C) in winter, low of 55°F (13°C) to a high of 86°F (30°C) in summer. Santa Fe receives 2-3 inches (50-75 mm) of rain per month in summer and about 5 inches (13 cm) of snow per month in winter. Its relatively dry, invigorating climate makes it a popular summer resort, while mountain skiing attracts winter visitors.
The symbol has sacred meaning to the Zia people. Four is a sacred number which symbolizes the Circle of Life: the four directions, the four times of day, the four stages of life, and the four seasons. The circle binds the four elements of four together. His winning design is the flag that the state uses today.
